Journeyman/woman Heavy Duty Mechanic

Description

Red Seal Trade Certification – heavy duty mechanic who will be responsible to maintain equipment in a safe, working order and inspect regularly to detect faults and malfunctions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment in safe, working order and inspect regularly to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems, using hand and power tools.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
  • Repair and maintenance of a fleet of open-pit mining equipment.
  • Mechanics are exposed to wet floors, humidity, dust, fumes, and moving objects. Although work is indoors, the temperature can vary due to doors being open or extremes of weather.
  • May work very close to moving equipment.
  • May have to work outside, which means extremes of weather (particularly cold), and walking and working on uneven and slippery ground.
  • Will have to wear protective gear, such as gloves, safety glasses and body harnesses while meeting the physical demands of the job.

Qualifications

  • Journeymen heavy duty mechanic certificate.
  • Driver's license is required.
  • Working in an Open Pit Mine or Industrial: 1 year (preferred)
  • Will need to squat, kneel, crawl, work at high elevations as well as lift up to 50 pounds.
